OBJECTIVES

The courses of the Italian School are part of a big cultural offer of the School of Tehran . The objective of these courses is to obtain an Italian language certificate and admission to an Italian University .These courses, even if quite short, aim at 4 language skills .

•  comprehending spoken language
•  ability to speak in the target language
•  ability to read and comprehend a written text
•  ability to express oneself in written form

These competences may seem very different, but they have several common points that complete each other. Therefore, the course is designed in a way that special time is allocated to work on each of these 4 skills.
One of the basic principles on which our course is based is the necessity to mo del whatever is ha ppening during the Italian lessons upon the reality of life and the use of language.

CONTENTS

The courses are designed as a collection of materials and their objective is to promote the interaction of the learners and to permit the students to discover, together with the teacher the function of Italian language. It is to help learners acquire a part of the language which they need .

The student is not a simple actor directed by a director or a teacher . Rather, he becomes a protagonist who is participating actively in real life situations with his own personality, his needs, and his behavior. Having an active role promotes and interests the student to live a real experience in a foreign language which consequently promotes the acquisition. Each teaching unit is a set of activities which helps the students and the teacher reach an objective. The students are discovering and experiencing all the main linguistic and cultural elements needed for each situation; for the aim is to help the learners to act in a natural way in real the situations and to understand the functioning of language.

In addition to analyzing and classifying the given material, it should be designed in a way that all the functions that seems to be happening in a single moment, should be presented gradually to the students. In this specific method, the vocabulary is presented as a means of communication, so that the students are able to carry out the given activities. However, this does not signify that grammar has been considered in the second position in “notional-functional” method. That is, the material is organized in a systematic way, where the students can progress. However, the objective of a language course leads the students to have control over the learning process, and, therefore, towards independence.

LESSON DESIGNED AS INTERACTIONS

One of the fundamental principals that the course is based upon is the necessity to make the contents of the lessons closer to everyday, real -life situations where the language is needed. This is the main reason for preparing learners to integrate the natural world in real life use of language, and help them acquire the functional use of language. Artificial situations have been avoided as much as possible by creating an ordinary interaction in the class. However, this approach not only does not undermine the particular situations of the class, but also helps make the most of the given opportunity to use the language naturally. It should also be mentioned that the type of lessons describe situations that are not found in a classroom but elsewhere in real life. The authenticity of the interactions and the personal progress of the learner make it possible for them to personalize many other contents and situations to learn.
