Presentation of the Italian Courses
OBJECTIVES The courses of the Italian School are part of a big cultural offer of the School of Tehran . The objective of these courses is to obtain an Italian language certificate and admission to an Italian University .These courses, even if quite short, aim at 4 language skills . comprehending spoken language These competences may seem very different, but they have several common points that complete each other. Therefore, the course is designed in a way that special time is allocated to work on each of these 4 skills. CONTENTS The courses are designed as a collection of materials and their objective is to promote the interaction of the learners and to permit the students to discover, together with the teacher the function of Italian language. It is to help learners acquire a part of the language which they need . The student is not a simple actor directed by a director or a teacher . Rather, he becomes a protagonist who is participating actively in real life situations with his own personality, his needs, and his behavior. Having an active role promotes and interests the student to live a real experience in a foreign language which consequently promotes the acquisition. Each teaching unit is a set of activities which helps the students and the teacher reach an objective. The students are discovering and experiencing all the main linguistic and cultural elements needed for each situation; for the aim is to help the learners to act in a natural way in real the situations and to understand the functioning of language. In addition to analyzing and classifying the given material, it should be designed in a way that all the functions that seems to be happening in a single moment, should be presented gradually to the students. In this specific method, the vocabulary is presented as a means of communication, so that the students are able to carry out the given activities. However, this does not signify that grammar has been considered in the second position in “notional-functional” method. That is, the material is organized in a systematic way, where the students can progress. However, the objective of a language course leads the students to have control over the learning process, and, therefore, towards independence. LESSON DESIGNED AS INTERACTIONS One of the fundamental principals that the course is based upon is the necessity to make the contents of the lessons closer to everyday, real -life situations where the language is needed. This is the main reason for preparing learners to integrate the natural world in real life use of language, and help them acquire the functional use of language. Artificial situations have been avoided as much as possible by creating an ordinary interaction in the class. However, this approach not only does not undermine the particular situations of the class, but also helps make the most of the given opportunity to use the language naturally. It should also be mentioned that the type of lessons describe situations that are not found in a classroom but elsewhere in real life. The authenticity of the interactions and the personal progress of the learner make it possible for them to personalize many other contents and situations to learn.
TEACHING STAFFAll teachers have long lasting experience in the field of teaching Italian to foreigners. Teacher training meetings are periodically organized by the school. COURSE FREQUENCY AND ORGANIZATIONThe courses are organized into two 72 hour levels (level 1 and 2) and one 60 hour level (level 3).
LEVEL 1 AND 2After completing the first two levels the students reach and intermediate knowledge of Italian, which constitutes the basis for further development of the language in all fields, from tourism to job opportunities, and admission to Italian universities. TEACHING MATERIALSThe teaching materials refer to texts used in many Italian universities for foreigners. The course books are stimulating and rich in exercises, covering everyday situations and a variety of subject areas. The topics relate to communicative situations which the students can encounter during their stay in Italy or during conversations with Italians. The students acquire the grammatical rules inductively, by using linguistic functions and grammatical structures portrayed in situational contexts. LEVEL 3The advanced level is addressed to intermediate students and allows them to reach a superior level of linguistic and cultural competence. The classroom activities are aimed at improving the communicative skills both in every day and professional situations. EXAMINATIONSAt the conclusion of each level students take a written exam on the contents and skills developed throughout the course. CERTIFICATESThe passing of level 3 is certified by an Italian Language Certificate. The names of the students who have passed level 3 are published in the school site, at the disposal of employers and personnel research offices. EXTERNAL STUDENTSThose who wish to study privately may take the level 2 final examination externally, which cost €50 for each examination session. The exam for external candidates is aimed at verifying the knowledge of the contents of levels 1 and 2 and takes place every year. |
